Loses Another Great Man -
Joseph 'Culture'
Hill Passes On
Saturday, August
19th 2006
It is with deep regret and
sadness that we have to share with you the news of the passing
of Joseph 'Culture' Hill. According to Joseph's daughter,
Afraine, who we spoke to from Joseph's home in Jamaica today,
her father died in Germany from liver failure early morning
Saturday, August 19th. Hill (born: January 22, 1949)
enjoyed a lengthy career in reggae music and is mostly known for
his hit '2 7's Clash.
The
group Culture began recording in 1976 with songs written in
response to the State of Emergency declared by the Jamaican
government in that year. First known as the African
Disciples, the line up of Culture consisted of Joseph Hill on
lead vocals, Albert Walker and Kenneth Dayes. Most
of the singles ended up on their debut album, Two Sevens Clash.
Mr. Hill had over 22 albums to his credit.
He will be greatly missed by both fans and peers.
The group has decided to
cancel the rest of its
current European tour but will continue in the future with
Joseph's son Kenyatta standing in on lead vocals for
his father.
West
Indian Times sends condolences to the family and friends of
Joseph. He was a great friend to us at West Indian Times
and will be sorely missed.
