The matter of who will represent Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke in his drug and gun running case in the US courts has still not been finalized.

After making another court appearance on Monday, in a Manhattan federal court, Coke was again remanded to prison without knowing whether he will have to be represented by a public defender or whether he will be allowed to hire his own attorneys.

That’s because Coke has to prove that the money he will pay any attorney was not obtained through any criminal activity.

Attorney Russell Neufeld has been appointed by the court to represent Coke. But a team led by Frank Doddato is waiting in the wings to be retained by the alleged crime boss.

Coke returns to court on September 7th when the matter will be dealt with.

The reputed leader of the Shower Posse gang is charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and marijuana and conspiracy to illegally traffic in firearms.

If convicted on the narcotics charge, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to US$4 million or twice the financial gain from the offence. He also faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison on the firearms trafficking charge, and a fine of up to US$250,000 or twice the financial gain from the crime.
