Lady
Cham Having Pre-Show Fun Before The 6th Annual Caribbean
Reggae Fest,
Sunday, Nov. 16th
Story &
Pictures By Lady Cham
The day of the 6th
Annual Caribbean Reggae Fest began early for me, after a
couple hours of sleep it was time to get up and get the
show on the road. I had until 11am to round up artists
and find out where the vendors would be as I would be
calling in to our radio show the Caribbean Connection
which is broadcast on WNSB Hot 91.1fm in Norfolk, VA.
First I contacted Chuck B of Anchor/Minott promotions
who was very helpful with directing me to the other
hotel at which a few of the artists were staying so I
headed over there and sought out
Rudegal of rudegal.com
who could give me the hook up with some of the artists.
We headed down to breakfast and found
Spragga Benz and KC Jockey!
They were both wonderful and called in to the Caribbean
Connection and Princess Ann and Queen Eupha had lots of
fun talking to them in the studio.
Rudegal also spoke to
the radio listeners in VA and let them know that 'rudegal's
running tings at rudegal.com!"

Reuben
from Buju’s camp was up and about but Buju was still in
bed which was the case for most of the artists who were
resting so they would be fit for action later on.
Although Cecile was
just getting up and was not dressed, she graciously
called into the show and spoke to her fans in VA
(especially the men!)
I
had the opportunity to meet
Maxyne who is based in Atlanta but hails
originally from Canada, she was at the Reggae Fest with
Webba of Webba Promotions
and Consulting. She is a vocalist who specializes in
Pop/Reggae and is currently in the studio working on an
album to be released in 2004. Webba says they are not
sure if it will be a Reggae album or a mixed album but
he will definitely keep us updated as to how the project
is coming along. Webba Promotions is responsible for
marketing many artists such as Spragga and Buju to name
a few, he says that his company gets the artist’s name
out on the streets and gives their careers a jump start.
I
also had the pleasure of meeting
'Cooyah' of Cooyah fashions based in
Jamaica, he designed the wonderful Caribbean Reggae Fest
T-Shirts with all the artist's faces and names on the
shirt. He is very talented and informed us of all
the wonderful fashion shows that Cooyah has been doing
recently.

After having breakfast and chit chatting
with artists and band members at the hotels I realized
that I did not have much time left to run over to
Bicentennial Park to speak to vendors who are an
integral part of any festival. I must thank the dozen or
so Miami police officers who did not arrest me for
rushing the wrong way down a one way street trying to
find the park! After showing my press pass and
explaining that listeners were patiently waiting for me
to call back into the show they advised me to take it
easy and to try not to kill anyone!
I
made it to the park! Talk about TIGHT SECURITY it
looked as if the whole Miami PD was at the park! I
was extremely grateful to security for not hassling me,
they could see I was in a rush and quickly but
efficiently checked to make sure I was authorized. I
caught up with a few Miami police officers who actually
said hi on air to our VA listeners as did a few vendors,
they spoke about where they had traveled from and what
they were selling. On air were Jamaican Gourmet
from DC, Caribcards.com and Dino's Jerk Joint, thanks to
all of you!
