On Friday night, August 22nd, 2003, patrons at the Norva,
Norfolk, VA were blessed to receive the sweet sounds of Beres
Hammond & Friends, a Lionheart Promotion. Before the arrival of
Beres those in attendance were entertained by the sounds of
newcomer, Ginjah who gave a great performance, The Harmony House
singers who entertained fans with their beautiful melodious
voices, and The Wailing Souls who also had great response from
the patrons. The extra treat ‘the sweet’ before Beres was the
sweet sultry sound and performance of Marcia Griffith. At one
point she introduced her son, Taft, who sang a duet with her
called ‘All My Life’ and during that song patron ‘Big T’ was
brought to tears as the song was sung, it so happened that this
particular song was he and his wife Doris’ wedding song, this is
how moving the performance was! Marcia ended her performance by
inviting patrons to join her on stage to do the electric slide
one of the songs she is well known for. The patrons were
thrilled and excited that she was a part of the show. Her beauty
was illuminated on stage by her grace and class. Marcia, a
former ‘I-Three’s’ member showed that she is a true Diva!

During the intermission, a lot of fun was had
as Kidd Walker played music for the crowd and had local
dancehall queen Carlene up on stage with others doing the latest
dances from Jamaica! Then a roar was heard throughout the Norva
as the crowd cheered to Beres Hammond entering the stage. Full
of energy and charisma he welcomed the fans with pleasure. The
patrons cheered to witness such a spiritual and beautiful
singer. Loyal fans cried tears of joy as he serenaded them. The
audience listened attentively as he sang a melody of songs such
as, "SHE LOVES ME NOW, STEP ASIDE NOW, FALLING IN LOVE, among
others. The crowd sang along with him as he blessed them with
him tunes, "SMILE FOR ME AND PUTTING UP RESISTANCE". His humble
being and aura made the crowd love him even more and patron
Randy stated that Beres had every man confessing! He thanked the
crowd and all the opening acts for their participation, and gave
thanks for the love and the energy of the fans. For the finale,
he sang "ROCK AWAY, and ended the show with OUR FATHER and
GIVING THANKS. The crowd gave up rapturous applause and many
thanks for such a breath-taking performance. Beres Hammond is
always welcome in Virginia!
